Stony Brook defeated the Rams, 28-6, the last time the team met at Jack Coffey Field on September 15, 2018. For the second year in a row, Stony Brook is set to open the season at LaValle Stadium on the Thursday before Labor Day weekend with a conference game. The Seawolves are set to host Rhode Island in the 2022 season opener on Thursday, September 1. Stony Brook is 7-1 all-time against the Rams and earned a victory over them the last time they played at LaValle Stadium on October 20, 2018. The Flames, who finished 8-5 and earned the trip to Mobile, beat the Minutemen last year. While the Minutemen may not love seeing Liberty on the schedule, at least quarterback Malik Willis will be in the NFL by then.
Two teams with new coaches, Brown and UConn's Jim Mora Jr., will hook up in East Hartford. The Minutemen got their only win, beating UConn 27-13, and having the students storm McGuirk's turf. The 1-11 Huskies got their only victory against FCS Yale of the Ivy League.
